ORDERING YOUR GIFTWEB

We have designed a two-stage ordering process for added security. You might think it's cumbersome, but we don't feel that we have the right to take chances with your money. When we are satisfied that accepting credit card orders over our website is secure and convenient (for us as well as for you), we will change our ordering process, but until then, here is what to do.

In the first stage (now), just send us an email telling us about the intended recipient of the Giftweb. What we need to know is:

  • Their name
  • What you think the site will be used for (their sports club, school, hobby, life story, family, or anything else)
  • The date you want the gift to be ready
  • Your email address
  • Your contact number (for any queries)
That's it!

We will then find some suitable domain names and arrange for space on a virtual server. When we have done that, we will email you with an unique reference number, which we will quote in all correspondence, and the choice of domain names, and also (groan) a second form.

The second form is where you confirm the order, indicate your preferred domain name, arrange the payment method (credit card or cheque) and tell us the address you want the gift details posted to. If you're paying by credit card, put the details on the form (that email address is on a BT secure mailhost, so there is no danger of your card details being pilfered). If you're paying by cheque, just print the form, enclose the cheque and post the whole thing to us.

As soon as payment has cleared (whichever type), we will register the domain name, set up the template website, create a new email address for the recipient and post full details of how to access their site, their new email address, how to redirect to their existing email address (if required) and everything else they need to know to get going. Of course we will include our support details to talk them through any problems as they get started.

Why do we post details to the recipient instead of emailing?

Three reasons.

  • It's nicer to have something you can actually hold as a gift
  • If the gift is a surprise, you don't want the recipient deleting an email because they think it's junk mail!
  • We don't know their email address! We work on the principle that the less information we hold about anyone the better.
