In general, any work we undertake for clients can be neatly divided into three phases.
  • Specifying the user requirement
  • Building and testing the solution to the requirement
  • Implementing the solution and client acceptance

Specifying the user requirement

The first thing we need to know is - what do you want? What is the problem you need to solve? What is the benefit you hope to gain?

We will talk to you over and over again (probably until you're sick of the sight of us) until we know exactly what it is that you want. We will go away and come back with a written proposal.

You will in the meantime have thought of extra features you would like (everyone does) and we might have a few extra suggestions as well. We go through the process again.

And again ...

And again ...

And again ...

Until finally we are both happy that what we are describing is exactly what you want, and exactly what you expect us to do for you. You sign a piece of paper (or an electronic form) to indicate this fact. At this point, you could take this requirement to anyone else and they could do the work for you. The requirement will be clear, unambiguous and detailed. (No-one ever has gone elsewhere yet, but there is always a first!) Assuming that you are still with us we go on to ...

Building and testing the solution to the requirement

Which is where we build what you said you wanted, and test it to make sure it works.

For example, if building a bespoke website for you, we will write it, test it with Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator and Opera and Lynx, and test all four in different screen resolutions (640 x 480, 800 x 600, 1024 x 768 and Web TV) to make sure that everyone who browses your site can see it properly.

We will upload it to test sites on the Web to ensure that it works with Apache servers and IIS servers.

We will test any interactive bits such as information gathering forms or shopping cart technology to make sure that they cannot be crashed by users. We will test and retest the security features to guard against hacking.

When we are finally happy, we go on to ...

Implementing the solution and client acceptance

Which is where we load the solution into your IT systems, and test again. We integrate the solution with your existing IT structure, train users (where necessary) and get you to sign something again to say that you are happy (ecstatic) with what we have designed.

After initial consultations, and your indication that you intend to engage us to perform work for you, we will produce a binding quote. We require an initial deposit of 30% of the total value of the quote at this stage. When we have received this, we commence work on your solution. We require a further 40% at the end of the building phase, and the balance when you accept the finished product. Full terms and conditions are to be agreed upon before work commences.

Why not contact us for an informal discussion and preliminary quote?
