Website management and maintenance

There is quite a bit more to managing a website than most people imagine.

The obvious tasks are:

to change content as and when the owner requests changes
to keep links to subordinate pages current and accurate
to keep links to other sites up to date. (It is extremely annoying to find sites that contain multiple dead links.)

The not so obvious tasks:

negotiating banner advert placement on other sites (a recurring task since 'hot' sites change on a weekly basis)
submitting the site's meta tags and title to search engines and directories on a regular (and frequent) basis
weeding out redundant and dead pages from the host server directory
archiving and deleting old survey forms, email responses etc.
weeding the site database
arranging reciprocal links with related sites
incorporating public domain or shareware downloads
changing host if required
registering and reregistering domain names
keeping the domain name pointer current
constantly seeking to improve the speed, appearance, attention grabbing and attention getting qualities of the site
keeping the site owner up to date and informed about all the above

I could go on, but you get the picture.
